Bespoke New Kitchens and Furniture

Maite Alegre has most recently been focusing her experience and flair for interior design on the creation of new, bespoke furniture.

Her work includes fitted pieces to create contemporary kitchens, bedrooms and living spaces.

From the initial design of the furniture, through to its building and completion, the workmanship and attention to detail are second to none.

Each piece is expertly hand-painted using layering techniques, distressed for an aged look and given a beautifully soft, yet hard-wearing finish. The overall look is an elegant fusion of classic and contemporary.

This fitted wardrobe, designed for an Oxfordshire country cottage, showcases the stylish, clean lines of Maite Alegre’s unique designs, combined with a clear sense of “home” and relaxed functionality.

Antique French Furniture

French furniture has always been renowned for its elegance and design. Throughout the centuries, people have been inspired by the rococo style of Louis XV, the neoclassical furniture of Louis XVI, the decorative Parisian style, and the simpler rustic charm of French country manors and farmhouses.
Here at Maite Alegre Home, we can source and hand-paint antique French furniture to your specifications. The furniture keeps all of its original beauty and elegance whilst being given a new lease of life, fit for the contemporary home you want!
We currently have available (or can source) stunning vintage armoires, dressers, tables, chairs and chaise-longues, as well as smaller interior pieces such as mirrors and candelabras.

Shabby Chic

As a design concept, shabby chic began to emerge initially in the UK as a counter-culture to the unimaginative interiors and mass-produced furniture coming out of the 1980s and 1990s. There was a desire to get back to a more unique and expressive way of home-design. The shabby chic style is inspired by a whole range of periods and influences: from the stunning interiors of 18th century Sweden to the elegance of old French farmhouses; from chintzy vintage or funky retro to the vibrant simplicity and colour of the Southern Mediterranean… Generally, the furniture has a relaxed, hand-painted look, achieved through layering on paints and then using certain techniques for a distressed or aged finish. The look can be enhanced by upholstering or accessorising with original fabrics. Nowadays extremely popular, the appeal of shabby chic lies in a laid-back elegance and innate good taste that does not try too hard! At Maite Alegre Home there is a real sense of creating interiors that are meaningful, beautiful, functional, and above all utterly original and unique to your own particular style.

Painted Interiors & Kitchen Design

Commissions make up a large part of our business and we offer a highly individual, bespoke service. We work with any style and size of furniture, including kitchen interiors, fitted cabinets, dressers and armoires, as well as smaller pieces such as tables and chairs.  We can also design, build and paint a bespoke kitchen for you to suit your budget – whether built from scratch or off-the-shelf, in different materials. We can upholster where needed, using beautiful rustic linens and stylish Ian Mankin fabrics. For a bespoke kitchen or drawing room – I use the same painting techniques to transform fitted or free-standing furniture in the home. From white Ikea units to shabby wooden furniture – all can be transformed to dramatic effect to give you the home that you want, and less expensive than buying a new painted wooden kitchen!

The picture below features hand painted Ikea white base units – painted in muted tones to replicate rustic wood. Mixing rustic with contemporary works beautifully in the home.

Maite Alegre Home at the Big Feastival 2013

It was fabulous to take part in Jamie Oliver’s Big Feastival last weekend…the sun was shining and the atmosphere buzzing as people turned up in their thousands to enjoy this celebration of food, drink, art & artisans, quality products and great music!

At the Maite Alegre Home stand we were proud to exhibit some of our exquisite hand-painted furniture and interior accessories, and we had a lot of fantastic feedback about our unique style. Our new range of retro-inspired furniture was a definite favourite, as were the elegant French armoires.

Smaller items were also available, such as decorative boards, quality gift-boxed candles and keepsake boxes.

For us, the best part of the weekend was meeting and talking to so many of you about what we do. We were delighted to see so much interest in commissioning us for your own painting projects, ranging from smaller-scale individual pieces, through to more ambitious ideas of re-creating entire rooms, sourcing original pieces and painting the whole to your own style and specifications.

Unique Gifts Keepsake Boxes

I have started creating beautiful hand-painted wooden keepsake boxes and platters. Each one is unique and can also do commissioned designs to celebrate special occasions for the special people in your life. Perfect for a birthday, wedding, anniversary or birth.
The boxes are mostly vintage, some with little locks and keys. Each one is hand-painted with layers of water-based paint, given a distressed finish. The insides of the boxes are also finished with burnished golds or pastels. Prices start from £25.

Available on-line here, or contact us with any specific requests.
